30 things before 30

I’m trying thirty new things every day for a month before I turn 30 . . .

Running To Do List

with 5 comments

Thanks to those of you who submitted such great ideas for my project.  Some of you shared wonderful advice and life lessons and others offered longer-term goals.  Here’s a running list of the items you suggested that I’m hoping to realistically fit into my 30 days.  Obviously I can’t do it all . . . but it’s never to early to start my “40 things before 40” list, right?!

The √ denotes items you suggested that I’ve completed.

  • Decide that 30 is not the end of my window to do interesting things.
  • Make a five year plan with key milestones. √
  • Visit a beautiful spot. √
  • See the sunrise and sunset at the beach on the same day.
  • Eat flan. √
  • Snorkel in the bathtub.
  • Host an ice cream social.
  • Take a salsa/dance class.
  • Reread my favorite book.
  • Go to the top of the Washington Monument. √
  • Go to the zoo and watch the gibbons watching me.
  • Read some Neruda poetry. √
  • Visit Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.
  • Take a sailing lesson (e.g., at DC Sail).
  • Bike to Mt. Vernon.
  • Eat the shizo and plum roll at Sushi Taro.
  • Open a Roth IRA.
  • Streak.
  • Volunteer for a political campaign. √
  • Bake an entire chicken. √
  • Listen to a podcast on an obscure topic I’ve always been curious about.
  • Make a mix CD with songs representative of each year in my life. √
  • Meet a monk and/or make a mandala.
  • Make paella. √
  • Go for an autumnal hike.
  • Contribute to the World Beach Project.
  • Climb the wall at the Renaissance festival. √ (well, I went down the slide)
  • Write a poem.
  • Wear a colorful, patterned shirt.
  • Make a Halloween costume for a dog.
  • Go through a maize maze and/or shoot pumpkins from a cannon
  • Hike part of the Appalachian Trail. A very small part.
  • Check out Luciana Souza who has written songs based on Neruda poems.
  • Try hot yoga.
  • Visit the the Great Blacks in Wax Museum.
  • Get eyebrows “threaded.”
  • Go rock climbing (a climbing gym counts).
  • Take a walk in the rain (no umbrella).

  1. I have a few more ideas…

    Make paella.

Go horseback riding in Rock Creek Park.

Eat ice cream for breakfast. Or dinner. Or both.

Splurge on a fancy downtown hotel on a Friday night. Check in early so that you can have a lunchtime tryst with your hubby.
